Pumpkins

On halloween a parent with a pumpkin patch brought in enough pumpkins for all the grade 1's to decorate a pumpkin. Even Mr. B got to beautify one. Everyone in the picture is sitting in front of their pumpkin. It's kind of hard to recognize me but i'm the one second from the left (to the right of the student with the yellow shirt). I put glassess on my pumpkin and all the students thought that was crazy! Then we all laughed because i guess a pumpkin with glassess is ridiculous. Jokes are fun. I thought the students pumpkins were great. I haven't been around younger students in a while and i forgot how creative they can be if they are given some freedom. I really like the black pumpkin for some reason. Mostly because i've never seen anyone color or paint their pumpkin all black and also because it took him a long time to finish and three black felt markers. If you want to see young students engaged, give them a pumpkin and a bucket of felts. Not only do they create unique pumpkin art, they also end up coloring themselves. I should also add that i had more marker on me than the other students; even more than the black pumpkin artist.

P.S.

I forgot to add something about the sing-a-long. It wouldn't have gone as well if our class didn't have such great attitudes and enthusiasm. I think that made for our lack of rehearsal time and transferred over to audience.

So once again, great job

During my undergrad degree i landed a job with an environmental consulting company. My job was to live in the wild with eagles to learn about their habits, lifestyles, raise young eagles who lost their parents to hunters, and try to decipher their communication sounds to establish a working vocabulary that could be used by scientists to converse with the eagle population. Due to the fact that i could not fly, even though i contructed wings out of cloth, my contract was eventually cancelled (for those of you who don't know eagles only converse while flying). I tried to ask the eagles why they only talk while flying but like i mentioned, my wings were not yet fully functional. I tried to tell the consulting company that i would be able to fly if i was given the time to develop the skills and techniques but they used some choice words to tell me how much money they had lost investing in my ridiculous project. Needless to say i moved on. The rejection from the consulting company destroyed my confidence and I swore to never think about eagles again. I went into depression for 1.6 years eating only dill pickle pringles, wild turkish game hens and garlic peanut butter milkshakes. I spent most of my time at tracks betting on chetland ponies that never seemed to win. Turns out, i was delusional. I wasn't actully visiting a track but walking to a farm down the road harrassing a farmers Lama's. I found that out one day when farmer politely asked me to stop throwing monopoly money at his lama's. Let me tell you, that was bottom. Rock bottom. Lama's can be pretty mean when they start to ridicule the delusional. But i got back up, worked hard, and decided to become a teacher to lead and guide youth into following their dreams.
That information was actually not true at all. This was actually a halloween costume that I created. I don't really have any art that i've done but I did create this costume which i think is pretty good. It took me a long time to make and i think i still have scars from the hot glue gun. Anyways, thanks for reading, if you ever need an eagle costume you know who to call. Oh, and it turns out this costume is also relevant because i am currently a member of the screeming eagles and I could easily be our mascot if i am ever needed.

Giddy up Jingle horse pick up your feet!

Well,

I would have to say with the limited amount of time we had to rehearse our sing-a-long it was great. Nathan, you are the best santa i've seen this year and if i ever have kids you're hired to take their christmas requests. You also have a very masculin "HO HO HO" that demands attention. D is for Dan and Dynamo. I never want to hear the original version of frosty again, I only want to hear the meeces(?) version.....The meece team should record that song and take it on tour..... I liked IT! Rudolph team, your dance moves are great. Jingle bell rock team, you picked a song that has one of my favorite versus and your choreographed moves were sweet and in constant unison. Felis Navidad was a great song to end the show with. The chorus was easy enough that the audience could sing along without words and i liked the guitar and back-up instruments. From the looks on peoples faces the audience was amused. Thanks to Santa's threats I even saw Colin sing. I also noticed that when Deck the halls was sang, that song received three seperate rounds of applauses. I would like to think that it was because the singing of the eagles and their back-ups was so good. But it may have been the opposite. I think i'll go with my first option though. I was nervous about how the sing-along would turn out but i think it was a positive experience and the audience enjoyed it. Also, thanks to the dancing Queen (kristen) for keeping us in check and giving me someone to look at when i didn't know what action to do next.

Good Job class,

Im out

Shape Cats

What are two things every man or woman needs in their life? You guessed it, shapes and cats. Put those together and you get "Shape Cats," a science art project for grade 1. At first I was jelous of the students shapecats because they were better than the example one I made to show. But that jelousy went away because the creativity in the students was awesome. Nobody's shape cat was the same and even more importantly, nobody's shape cat was the same as the example I showed the students. I had a bunch of little independant thinkers and you can't ask for much more than that!

Education 406 Lesson Sharing

OOOOOOOOOOOOO EAGLES.

Great work team. The lessons shared in the last two classes were great. Not only were there awesome ideas but i now know what "cubism" is, and it has nothing to do with politics. I think the idea of sharing the lessons is a good one beacuse you get to see other peoples perspectives art ideas and the way they prefer to teach it. Not only did I get good art ideas but I was introduced to different and new ways to lead instruction when teaching it. That being said I found it a valuable exercise.

Andrew

What I did at the Art Show (other than serve cake)

My particpation at the art show includes:
  • Contributing artwork from kersley elementary school (k-1 class).
  • Setting up and cleaning up chairs.
  • serving cake, juice and water.
  • Circulating the room.

It may not seem like much but i did all of this with a smile and positive attitude.

The man, the myth , the legend

In a world fraught with conflict and problems its nice to know there is one man to take comfort in; that person being Neil Diamond. It has been argued by scientists and other individuals that are as smart or smarter than scientists that Neil Diamond is the greatest songwriter in american history. I guess that means that Neil Diamond is a musical genious. I mean, he wrote his most popluar song (Sweet Caroline) in an hour, sitting in a hotel; it wasn't even about anyone he knew. It was about a photo he saw of the presidents daughter all jazzed up in cowgirl gear. Thank you Neil, your the man.....I love your music as if it were my own.

Art Show

Good work on the art show team. The students and parents that showed up looked like they had a great time. It was also nice to give the students and parents a chance to appreciate the art of their own children and of others. The cake was a hit too. Some kids came back for fourths....thats more than i had. A couple students even put their fingers in the cake before it was served. Lets just say they were lucky i was in a good mood and didn't have to feel the wrath of Andrew Bond "Cake serving expert." On a serious note though, it was really nice to see the enthusiasm of students and parents. Have a good weekend
